Hood Qaim-Maqami is a veteran banking executive, serial innovator, and former standup comic.
He is also the tornado behind Metatorial- a passion project committed to empowering content creators to own their platforms, audiences, and revenue by replacing their dependency on large social media platforms with open source tools that prioritize independence, creativity, and authentic connection.
Prior to Metatorial, Hood served on the Technology and Operations Executive Committee of the Bank of New York Mellon– America's oldest bank, founded in 1784 by Alexander Hamilton. The Bank manages more than $40 trillion in assets and is-- by design-- the most resilient of the Global Systemically Important Financial Institutions (G-SIFIs).
Hood served as co-CIO for BNY’s Asset Servicing division, driving market-leading innovation for Custody, Alternatives (Private Equity, Real Estate, Digital Assets) and for a market-dominating Subaccounting platform; all the while creating the kind of efficiencies that unshackle IT from fiscal constraints-- freeing up capacity for strategic investment.
He was also responsible for setting the strategic direction of and delivering the Bank’s Shared Services agenda, which included guiding the firm’s nearly $200M annual investment in digital transformation and digital platforms, including market-making innovations in data management, analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics.
Hood served as the US-based Global Head of India Technology and Operations— an amazing group of 10K+ banking professionals, hyper-focused on delivering end-to-end customer journeys and mass-scale process automation. His global responsibilities also included his founding and scaling of a vibrant enterprise-wide Engineering as a Service (EaaS) function – an internal tech consulting arm focused on reducing the reliance on external vendors for variable capacity; with offices in Poland, Israel and India.
He was also honored to serve as the Chairman of the Board for BNY Mellon Israel (formerly a tech startup - Rumble) and BNY Mellon India.
Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Hood took on senior leadership roles at JP Morgan, where he was responsible for the International Private Bank Online and where he helped deliver the Firm’s robo-advisory offering. At Bank of America, Hood was responsible for and delivered their first-generation, massive-scale consumer mobile applications. He started his career on Wall Street in the late 1990s at Lehman Brothers.
Hood earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his master’s from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a celebrated author and thought leader within financial services on innovation and digital transformation.
He is happily married, has two beautiful sons, and spends his free time working with non-profits in the healthcare space — a very personal passion.
