Books, Books, Books '21
Ok. I’m pretending to panic! I go through books like water and I usually have 4 or 5 hopeful recommendations in my queue… and I’m down to 1 for next week (Tinderbox by James Andrew Miller).
So I earnestly need your help.
In exchange for that gift (the recommendation— not the book-- please), below you’ll find the gems I loved this year.
Book reviews– even short ones– tend to ruin the experience for me so I’ve added a one word review to each (in parenthesis).
—
Manifesto for a Moral Revolution by Jacqueline Novogratz (Inspiring)
The Emperor of all Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee (Ambitious)
Mine! By Michael A Heller and James Salzman (Unexpected)
Scale by Geoffrey West (Re-readable)
Strangers in Their Own Land by Arlie Russell Hochschild (Instructive)
Thinking in Systems by Donella H. Meadows (Useful)
Educated by Tara Westover (Unreal)

I didn’t include the usual link to easy digital purchases as a way of encouraging you to (safely) visit your local bookstore. There’s really nothing in the world quite like the smell of a new book.
Enjoy this last, hopefully restful week before 2022!
