Delegate Up

Delegate up.

When your manager offers their time and help, ask for more than their opinion; ask for more than their approval or their validation; ask for more than budget or resources; ask for more than their social influence on your behalf or on behalf of your agenda.

Ask them to do real work.

Don’t assume that they know how to do your job. So commit to training them; to learning together.

Servant leadership asks both the manager and the employee to change how they work. It asks both to recognize that “up” is a fiction.
