Books, Books, Books ‘22
Here’s my second annual “I’m panicking” post. As you know, I go through books like bubble tea and last year, when I posted that I was down to my last hopeful recommendation in my reading queue, this amazing community graciously filled that queue with an amazing list of over 50 favorites.
I still have 15 of those books in my queue– because life gets in the way– so this year I need your help for someone else’s queue: my Mom’s. She is only on LinkedIn to read my trite posts so here’s our chance to impress. Before you recommend anything though, please note that she likes positive, happy, uplifting books. (She’s healing from having a terrible son.)
In exchange for your gift (the recommendation— not the book-- please), below you’ll find the gems I loved this year.
–
Book reviews– even short ones– tend to ruin the experience for me so I’ve added a one word review to each (in parenthesis).
The Song of the Cell or anything by Siddhartha Mukherjee (Sublime)
A Gentleman in Moscow or Rules of Civility or anything by Amor Towles (Absorbing)
The Power Law by Sebastian Mallaby (Motivating)
Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow (Enlightening)
Good Business by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (Re-readable)
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (Entertaining)
Helgoland by Carlo Rovelli (Inspiring)
As with last year, I didn’t include a link to easy digital purchases as a way of encouraging you to visit your local bookstore. There’s really nothing in the world quite like the smell of a new book.
Enjoy these last few weeks before 2023!
(And don’t expect any posts until the new year as I’m torturing the fam with an unplugged adventure across Morocco. Happy Holidays!!)
